My cd-rom drive went dead after i went thru windows
update. "Dead" as in it would not read any type of disc i
put in although its status is active and "working
properly" as indicated by the device manager. y is this
happening?. the funny thing is, it works fine before the
windows update. is it some device problem or memory
access problem? i juz couldn't find anything wrong with
the drive, even when i took it out to check for defects
which wasn't supposed to happen in the first place.
anyone out there can provide some advice?

Thank you Angel n Unknown for ur replies earlier but i
still do not have any solution to this.

Try going into device manager delete it, reboot and let Windows reinstall it.
Plug and play in the BIOS has to be active to do this.
