My cd-rom drive went dead after i went thru windows
update. "Dead" as in it would not read any type of disc i
put in although its status is active and "working
properly" as indicated by the device manager. y is this
happening?. the funny thing is, it works fine before the
windows update. is it some device problem or memory
access problem? i juz couldn't find anything wrong with
the drive, even when i took it out to check for defects
which wasn't supposed to happen in the first place.
anyone out there can provide some advice?

FYI (this is a long shot):

There are two updates for Windows Media Player - one
which is a critical patch (828026) and one (832353) which
fixes problems with URL script commands after
installation of 828026 as well as this problem here:
(830846) Windows Product Updates May Stop Responding or
May Use Most or All the CPU Resources.
