CD-Rom Drive missing

MY CD-ROM and DVD-ROM are missing.
OS is Win XP-Pro
No Drive letters show up at all in explorer.
The hardware shows up in Device Manager with an exclaimation point .
Status give ths message:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be
corrupted or missing. (Code 39).
Tried uninstalling & rebooting but no luck.

I believe this happend when I tried to install an old hard drive on my
system (replacing an exisiting second hard drive). After installing the drive
and re-booting it showed up as a D drive. Never was able to access it
(probably a bad drive) so I took it out and put the other one back in.
My second drive shows up as C drive (always has).
I have since deleted the D drive/partition which remained after switching
the drives.
Anyone know how to get the drives & drive letters back?
thanks in advance

Upper and Lower filter problem. This article still applies even you did not
have Easy CD Creator installed.

CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19,
Code 39, or Code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
