CD ROM drive emulator..

I am looking for a CD ROM drive emulator, or as Wikipedia incorrectly
calls it, a "Disk image emulator" (It's not emulating an image, it is
emulating a drive. The image file is real. The drive is not.). The
only one I have found that doesn't have spyware or adware installed in
it that looks like a good one, is one I supposedly already have --
Nero ImageDrive. Well, I opened Nero, saw nothing. I went into Nero's
folder, and there it was, but it gave me an error when I tried to run
it: "The license you are currently using does not allow you to start
this application". How am I supposed to run this program, which I
bought along with my DVD burner (it's not sold seperately)?

Or.. Is there any other way I can do this? I'm not spending another
penny on this. I just want a virtual drive which can mount any iso/bin
I choose on my Windows 2000.

What you "bought" along with your DVD burner was the freebie OEM version
of Nero and, as is usually the case with OEM versions of programs that
are supplied with various kinds of hardware, they are the "Lite" or
crippled versions.

For full functionality, you'd need to obtain the full release of Nero.

There are also other programs out there (some of which might be
shareware or freeware) that may do what you want. MagicISO and PowerISO
I believe do this. Try a Google search or post you question in a more
appropriate forum.

Nero isn't available in any stores I've seen in Ontario or even Canada
entirely, outside of a CD or CD-DVD drive package...

I'll check those programs out.. To be honest, I couldn't find a more
appropriate group to post this in, so I figured I would at least pick
the one fitting to my operating system.

Hmmm .... you didn't really look far did you?

http://www.futureshop.ca/

http://www.bestbuy.ca/

http://www.greytech.com/

http://www.staples.ca/

http://www.officedepot.ca/

.... etc, etc

In each case put "Nero" into the search block and you'll find it. (They
all carry it in their stores too).

.... not to mention Amazon.ca

.... or you can purchase it as a downloadable on-line at http://www.nero.com

Try Alcohol120%

Try Daemon Tools. Although this software is designed primarily for gamers, it
can simply be installed and used for up to four virtual cd/dvd-rom emulators.
There are newer versions available, but I prefer version 3.47. Get it here:

DAEMON Tools 3.47
http://www.filehippo.com/download_daemon_tools/?236

Highly recommended and used by this writer.

Thanks for the links everyone. Since starting this thread I've been
through several programs and found one I like best: Virtual
CloneDrive. http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html

Freeware, small, and quite simple. Does exactly what I needed. I'm
amazed I found it.. Doesn't seem to be the most popular of the drive
emulators out there. :p
