CD/DVD multi drive failure ?

I have a nearly new multi drive that will read cd's and dvd's and write a
dvd but it suddenly will not write a cd in Windows. Just in a program that
came with the machine called Sonic. I went through the failure message and
MS KB articles and came up empty.

I am going to guess the cd write head went bad and windows wont see the
drive ? Am I close ? TIA.

You answered your own question if you can still burn with that drive and
other software.
The drive is fine - the software has been corrupted.

After a lot of googling it appears that the " allow cd writing with this
drive " under properties had become unchecked. I checked it and all is
fine. Interesting that Sonic overrides this and Windows does not.
