CD/DVD drives not accessible

H

hepley

I am suddently unable to use my CD or DVD drive. Although a music CD will
play from either drive, whenever I try to access a data disk in either drive
I get the message F:/ not accessible, incorrect function. Any ideas on
this? Thanks, Hugh Epley

The IMAPI cd burning service is disabled by 3rd party burning software
because of conflicts.

Hi John,

I assume you have updated Nero and are able to burn CD & DVD media, right..?
That's great.. As to why it doesn't work in Windows leaves me to guess that
you had problems with the Highmat extension burning plugin or otherwise known
as the inbuilt XP CD Wiz, right..? The XP CD Wiz in "my opinion" was a bad
idea by MS, by trying to be too innovative and by adding a light and very
limited CD-R burning capability to it's OS.. It sounded like a great idea,
might have been then, but since DVD media hit the market, it's a not so hot
idea now.. The inbuilt CD Wiz can't burn to DVD and should be disabled when
using a third party burning app, ideally to keep from fouling up the Windows
registry.. Nero can burn to a wider variety of media types, has a lot of
heavy duty features and is way better than the Highmat plugin period..
Remember, even in the Win 98se OS there was always a need for a third party
burning app.. If you ask me, XP isn't any different in that regard, your
really better off with your Nero..
Nero works great for me too..

Hi Jaymon,
Thanks for the info. At least I won't spend any more time chasing my tail.
