CD Drives Do Not Work

Both my cd & cdrw drives have stopped working. I have tried uninstalling and
reinstalling, and rolling back my computer as far as it will allow me and
niether have worked. In my Device manager the errors I am getting are as
followed:

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration
information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

I was going to just reinstall windows but (duh) I need a cd drive to do so.

Any help?

If the drives 'stopped' workong without any new software or update having
been installed, then consider that one of them may be faulty, thus casuing a
problem with the second.

CHeck the IDE cables into both and if they share the same IDE cable unplug
one, reboot and see if it functions: if not do it the other way around.

If you get one working drive, then you've hit the nail on the head.

If not then try looking into software probnlems or device settings -
although it's difficult to think that these would have altered 'all by
themselves'.
