CD Disc Drive Drawer Will Not Open

My Dell processor was in the shop getting debugged and I got it back, but can
not open the CD disc drive on the processor. The DVD drawer will open but not
the CD drawer. I do not believe there is a disc in it, but I wanted to play
some music while I worked.

I'm running XP Home Edition on a Dell Pentium 4. I am not very computer savy
so please keep that in mind when responding.

Thanks in advance

You removed the processor from the motherboard and sent it to the shop?
I presume that you were given a replacement, as there is no way to
debug or repair a semiconductor chip.

Anyway, if the PC was opened to remove/replace the processor, it's
possible that the power connector to the CD drive was accidentally
disconnected. Open the case and make sure that the CD drive's power
lead is firmly connected. If it is, you'll mostly need to replace the
CD Drive.

I guess I mispoke...When I said the 'processor' I ment the entire tower(?)
with the hard drives & all. Basically, I disconnected the wires, cords, etc
and walked in with the unit.

Every cord is connected and tight. Perhaps the only option at this time is
to take it back in and have them check to see if the power lead is connected
properly.

Is there a chance that the button to open the drawer is malfunctioning? Can
I open the drawer using the keyboard, such as using a combination of the
Function keys?

It may sound like a silly question, but the darn thing was in the shop for a
couple weeks and I don't want to take it back in again.

Thanks.

If it were mine, I'd take it back and make them fix it since it was working
before you took it in.

does it recognize the drive in "my computer"?

See if it's actually recognizing the drive. If it is, you might just
have a CD stuck in there. While the computer is off, unbend a paper
clip and stick the end in the tiny hole located on the front of the CD
drive. Push it in until it stops then continue to push until the
drawer opens. This is the manual way to open a stuck drawer.

Good luck!
