DVD Burner Thinks Its a CD - Will Not Burn

After a nasty crash, my Sony DRX-700UL external DVD Burner will be
shown in Windows Explorer as a DVD drive just fine until you place a
disc in the drawer and the drawer closes. Window Explorer then
refreshes and from then on shows the drive as a CD Drive.

But the real problem is that although it will play DVDs it will no
longer let me burn them. I get error messages saying that the blank
disc is full, I've tried about ten different discs, same problem.
Recording is enabled for the drive under drive properties, recording
tab.

Any ideas? HELP!

Thank you very much for the link but unfortunantly there wasn't
anything listed there which dealt with my situation. I have seen this
problem mentioned in the newsgroups before but never a solution.
