can't view icons

i have a folder where i keep various icons (.ico files). i used to be able
to view these icons when the folder was set to 'filmstrip', 'thumbnails',
etc. now, i can no longer preview these icon files from those settings. is
there any way to 'reset' windows so that i can once again preview these icon
files using the 'thumbnail' or 'filmstrip' options?
