Can't use Power Point Viewer 2007

Long Shadows

I just downloaded the Power Point Viewer 2007. I want it for viewing pps
attachments sent in emails. However, they keep opening with Microsoft Office,
for which I only have the temporary trial that came loaded on this new
computer. (I have Vista.) I tried to reset the pps extension using Control
Panel/Default Programs/Set Extensions, but it does not show the PP Viewer as
one of the options and when I've browsed, I'm not sure I've found where the
program resides. It didn't ask me where to put it when it installed. To
locate it, I right clicked on PPV and then Properties, but it won't show me
the target -- it's grayed out. I found the location of the shortcut
(C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs, but when I click on
that to set the extension, it shows "2007 Microsoft Office component" as the
program, and that doesn't work to open the pps file. I get an error saying
the file is not a valid Win32 application.

Can anyone tell me where this application automatically installs?
Alternatively, can anyone tell me the name of the executable so I can search
for it? The download page says "powerpointviewer.exe" but my computer isn't
finding anything by that name.

Thank you!

Hi Nancy

Try this:
Right click a pps/ppt/ppsx/pptx/etc file -> Open with -> Browse -> Microsoft
Office -> Office 12 -> PPTVIEW.EXE -> OK (that is the location with full
version of Office - not sure about trial)

I just tried running it from a run command on Vista, but it tells me it
doesn't exist (though it will let me browse to it). Mumble mumble Vista
mumble mumble.

You might also want to uninstall the trial (which you will definitely want
to do before you install a full version, if you decide to buy one). Or
install open office (it's free!): http://www.openoffice.org/
