How to make Powerpoint viewer default media player

O

Oldretrobiker

Hi
Friends send me pps files that I patiently download only to find that my
default media player can NOT handle the pps file.

I have a PowerPoint Viewer 2007 file; but, it is not performing as my
default media player for pps files.

How do I make the Power Point Viewer my default media player?

Thanks for any assistance.

Are you trying to open the PPS files directly from within your email, or are
you saving them to the harddrive first?

Thanks for your reply.

Here is what I do: I get the email as an attachment. I following the
download procedures, (Save or Open) and when fully downloaded, I get the
version of windows media player that says it can not handle this document.

Don't know whether that means opening directly from email or not but thats
what I do.

Okay, I think you're hitting Save and then double-clicking to open the file
on your harddrive. If that's the case, you can try this:

Changing a File Association, Repairing broken File Associations
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00355.htm

If that's not it, then I assume you're clicking Open. In that case, it may
be this:

Can't open attached presentations from within Outlook Express after applying
Windows XP SP2

Thanks for your reply.

Windows 2000 is my computer's operating system and often times the pps
arrives in a mail service that is not Hotmail.

The solutions you provided, while appreciated, do not seem to apply to my
situation.

Additional reply:

When I click on a saved .pps file to OPEN or PLAY I get the media player and
this message:

"...Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported...."

Save the PPS file to your desktop then right-click it.

What is the topmost/boldfaced option on the pop-up menu?

If you click the "Open With" item on the pop-up menu, what options appear?
