Power Point viewer

Downloaded powerpoint viewer. Problem: I recieve e-mail with
powerpoint attachments. When clicking to "open" I get a message that the
attched file has no program to open it. Went to control panel and "set
association" (PPS=microsoft powerpoint presentation)
Still could open the file in outlet express. However since the Viewer is
installed should't it find the assoc. on it's own?
If I save the file, I can open it without any problem by using window
explorer.
