Can't Update XP

Cathy

I keep getting an error saying "Setup could not verify
the integrity of the file Update.inf." Make sure the
Cryptographic service is running on this computer. I did
all the methods suggested (that applied toXP) in the KB
article 822798. Still no luck. I just recently
installed a new primary hd and reinstalled xp from the
oem cd. The computer is working though it has a slow
boot too. Auto update won't work either. I can't
understand it. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Cathy,

Open Windows Explorer to C:\Windows\system32, right-click/rename the
catroot2 folder to catold. Then retry the update installation. When
finished, there will be a new catroot2 folder and you can safely delete the
old renamed one.

Hi

Please try this:

Go to
http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm#Cannot_install_Service_Pack_2

Look for fixdb.bat under "Error 0x800710D9 Unable to read from
or write to the database". Download and run it.
