Can't update MM2

Hi,
after having a few problems getting Movie Maker 2 to work
I now have a problem where I cannot get The Winter Pack 2
to load. During the setup it says "setup has detected
that Movie Maker 2 needs to be installed" and points me
to the microsoft url for the download (this has been done
about 5 times).
Also I read on another thread about copying the four
files from "c:\windows\registered packages\{60BFF50D-FB2C-
4498-A577-C9548C390BB9}", well there is only one file in
this folder (moviemk), is anything missing?
Any help would be much appreciated.

TIA
Gaz

Hi there,

It sounds to me as though Movie Maker 2 is not properly installed. There is
also a possibility that you have somehow managed to install Movie Maker 2
to a non standard location, the registry file is not properly updated and
the installer for the Winter pack can not therefore find the correct
location.

As far as copying files out of Registered location such as the one you
mention, it's a total NO NO, unless you make alteration to the Registry
itself AND you have absolute knowledge on what the effects of that would
have. In addition there should be two other files at the location you gave,
therefore it follows that some non-recommended action may have already been
taken. I strongly suggest that you ignore anyone giving such advice...it is
the kind of advice that would cause the problems you are having.

If ANY of the above rings a bell, then you have problems. I know how to
approach this but quite frankly I am not prepared to give that advice as it
is quite possibly the same type of advice given badly that put you into
this position. Instead I suggest you remove any shortcuts you may have to
your existing Movie Maker 2, by right clicking them and then selecting
delete, download the full version of program and install it...you might be
lucky.

There should be 2 other files in the folder, one named mm20ex.cat and
another mm20ex.inf

The info about using the 3 files is on the Problem Solving... MM2 Will Not
Install page of my site.

Thanks for both your replies I have managed to sort it
out with the help from Papa John's site.
