Can't Start Up

After re-formatting my PC, my Sound Blaster Audigy has been having many
problems with the software that comes with it. I've had to re-install the
drivers about 10 times so far because they kept stop working when I was
changing the settings from 5.1 speakers to headphones. I just recently
un-installed the driver so I could install it again, but then Windows told
me, once it had started up, that there was no sound card on my PC. So I
decided to do a system-restore, and since then everytime I start up my PC in
whichever mode (debug, safe, "last known good configuration") it keeps coming
up with a blue screen of death telling me that it has shut down to prevent
further damage to my PC. I don't know too much about PCs, and I need to know
how to start up my PC once again so I can disable the sound card from loading
and then do my own thing to get it working again. Any suggestions would be
great, and I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum or thread etc etc I'm just
and very busy person with very little time on my hands.

Thanks.
(I'm using Windows XP Proffesional SP2)

If it's a sound adapter and not integrated sound, pull the card out and
boot to Safe Mode.
In Safe Mode > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs uninstall the SB
software.
Next go to Device Manager and remove any/all devices listed under Sound,
Video and Game Controllers.
Close out of DM and reboot.
Don't reinstall the card if you plan to keep switching unless you're a
glutton for punishment.
