Can't send mail...

Hi--I am connecting to the internet through a different provider and cannot
send email with my Bellsouth account. This is the error message that I
receive:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account:
'mail.bellsouth.net', Server: 'mail.bellsouth.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Please help....

I have the same problem and the same facts. Bellsouth account, new
cable/wireless provider, same error message. Problem started yesterday
evening. Can delete outbox messages but can't send. Does the same problem for
2 of us suggest it's a Bellsouth/ATT problem? I'm running Windows Vista Home
Premium.

Let's see if I understand this. You're no longer a Bellsouth customer, yet
you want to continue using their mail servers? When you discontinued
service with Bellsouth, the locked your old accounts out. You'll have to
set up new accounts with your new service provider.

At least, that's the way it worked when I went from Bellsouth to a cable
provider.

I take it that when you got that error, your Internet connection was not
being provided by AT&T (Bellsouth). If so, what you experienced is
normal. As a general rule, the owner of the SMTP server you are using
must be the same as the entity providing your Internet connection
at that moment. For more on this issue see
http://www.postcastserver.com/help/Port_25_Blocking.aspx

The available workarounds when sending away from home are as follows:

1. Use webmail for sending (via your browser).
2. Ask Bellsouth if they have a port other than '25' for SMTP.
3. If you use the same away-from-home connection frequently,
substitute the SMTP server belonging to that connection. This is a bit
tricky, but if you want to go that route, I can provide more details.
4. If you frequently send from multiple locations, get a free Gmail account,
configure it for POP access, set it up in Windows Mail, and use that for
your sending chores. Gmail uses port 465 for SMTP, which is not blocked
like port 25 is.

Road Runner told me that my Road Runner accounts would continue to work
after I stopped using Road Runner.
