Can't Send Email, Is It Related to Not Being Able to Delete Outbox

I can receive, but not send email. I have reconfigured my servers per
provider instructions, and still cannot send. I have one email in my outbox
that I cannot delete - message body has text
"Message could not be displayed
Windows Mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this
message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again.
Windows Mail"
All other messages I compose just sit in my outbox and do nothing. When the
send/receive command is given, it appears that the program does not even try
to send, but just receives.
Are these issues related, and if so, how do I go about resolving?

I have had this same problem since day two with this new computer. It is
very frustrating - I have to copy and paste to my hotmail if I want to
respond to, or forward, any mail. This has to be a case where Microsoft
needs to resolve the issue - there are too many similar cases on these
discussion pages. How can we get them to respond to this isue?

Mine has been working fine up until today and now I'm getting exactly the
same problem with the same error message. I really need to get this sorted as
I'm in the process of applying to emigrate and I can't do it without email.
Please someone help!

I am having the exact same problem with my Vista Mail. What are we as clients
going to do to make Microsoft get this fix?

Have you tried marking the message as read and then deleting it? That's
what I've been doing and so far it has always worked. Other things:

Try repairing the database with WMUtil from www.oehelp.com

There are two copies of WindowsMail.MSMessageStore, One in
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Microsoft\Windows Mail
and one in
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Backup\New
If you delete both of these the database will be rebuilt. However, while no
messages should be lost, some may be downloaded again and you may lose some
record of which have been read. I recommend that you only do this when they
are causing you trouble, like when they are in the Outbox. Otherwise I now
just mark them as read and ignore them.

Janet - I've had same experience twice with stuck outbox messages VU/WinMail
that can't be deleted no matter what I try and that situation blocks sending.
I've had to copy the e-mail boxes & account files elsewhere, then delete the
whole "Windows Mail" folder so it can be regenerated clean when you restart
WinMail. Then copy back the accounts and box folders. What a pain. I've
gone for something like 2 weeks now w/o trouble but I fear each send I do
that it could be the last until I regenerate again. (If you just delete
outbox or messagestore & it's b/u this causes trouble & stuck message comes
back).

BTW once Toshiba cannot resolve ===> call MS; they will take the call for
free if you tell MS you are referred from OEM w/o fix. MS will walk you thru
the above as it is their recommended band-aid work-around.

My guess is that MS just doesn't know the root cause yet because it is so
intermittent but happens to be very widespread.

I couldn't get microsoft to help me with this problem because my copy of
vista was preloaded onto the laptop I bought. I have spoken to the
toshiba helpdesk and they have told me they are waiting for microsoft
to produce a fix. Until then, their suggestion is to delete my
database, but they warned me I may lose my emails if I do this. It
seems they don't have much help from microsoft on this, which is
astonishing as Toshiba and the other hardware suppliers who offer tech
support on Vista must be carrying the costs of all these enquiries.
However they told me they expect a fix to be produced soon, and of
course what they are offering currently is just a workaround; it
doesn't solve the underlying problem, which could just pop up again.
I'm really surprised that microsoft doesn't seem to have responded to
all the complaints on this site, which presumably they are aware of.
Wish Id bought a Mac now!

It won't let me do anything we the email at all. I've tried to move it junk,
delete it, mark it as read, mark it as unread, copy it, cut
it..............it won't budge. I've transferred everything until there is a
fix.

You won't lose your messages.

First thing is to remove McAfee or Norton AV and antispam from the computer
if they exist. You may need to visit their website to fully uninstall the
product. Then get something less invasive. There are a number of free
antivirus programs, but with any you have to disable email scanning. See
www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

After that, the only solution so far is to wipe out the database. So go to
Tools | Options | Advanced | Maintenance | Store Folder to find the message
store location. Then move everything under that Windows Mail directory to
another directory. Then restart WinMail and it will open fresh with nothing
in the database. You can then add your accounts and if they work correctly
then you can use File | Import | Messages and choose WinMail format and
point to the directory to which you moved the files.

Frank - Marking the stuck outbox message "read" had no effect in my case. I
still couldn't delete it or send anymore. It actually was just the header
that stuck; the message itself had been moved to "sent" box (and the message
was received at the other end.) I see Jane in the other thread response has
the same experience as me.

It is interesting that this method works for you; there may be more than one
failure mode going on here. So far, I've had clean WinMail ops for a couple
weeks now.

I haven't had any more stuck outbox headers for two weeks, so haven't
experimented much more. Once I did regeneration, the message was cleared out.

I am having the same problem of not being able to delete a certain email out
of my outbox. It is blocking all outgoing emails. I have called my
provider, microsoft and acer. Nobody can help. If I want acer
(manufacturer) to help they charge 2.75 per minute and do not guarantee a
solution. Does anyone have a solution? Im desparte
