I don't really understand your post. Writing complete sentences and
providing plenty of information is key to getting focused help.
Sorry about the skinny problem statement. Thanks for the look. Here is what
I'm trying to do:
Slipstream (in Win98se) an XP+SP2 .img file using the commands suggested
e.g. in the eldergeek guide & others. These guides use one .exe command from
the downloaded SP2 to Self Extract and another from the extracted result to
Update (or Integrate) depending on whose guide you're using. These are XP
routines I'm executing in W98. The routines attempt to execute using W98's
ntdll.dll which are missing some required functions. I then wonder if I can
replace the W98 ntdll with either XP's or ME's version.
Here is what I encountered:
The ntdll.dll missing export link error {Ntshutdownsystem} trying to Extract
sP2 using [Win...KB...ENU.exe -x] . I circumvented this and extracted with
WinZip.
And: The ntdll error missing export {Ntallocatevirtualmemory} when trying to
update/integrate using [...\i386\update\update -s].
"Insufficient Memory" notices accompanied both errors. I guess it means
virtual memory since I have 512MB and it's the Virtual Allocate function
that's missing.
Obviously Win98 ntdll is missing a function required by the XP routines. How
can I complete the slipstream integration of SP2 using W98? Can I borrow the
ntdll from WinMe or other OS to get through this hangup?
Unless you know something else - the utilities autostreamer and ntlite do
not claim to support W98.
