I recently updated to Office 2003 on my Win XP Pro system. Since then I
can't see my DVD drives. The error message in the system information window
states that the VxD Loader failed in loading the drives. Also in the Device
Manger window the two drive display this error message -"Windows cannot
start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the
registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

Can anyone suggest a fix? I've reinstalled SP1a for Win XP but nothing
changed.

Need help badly,

jag, just had pwr supply, motherbrd, processor replaced today.went to use dvd burner and there wasn't any drives listed under my computer. Called Tech Supp.....on the hold for 30min finally got through and he had the prob. fixed in five min. There's a series of steps I had to take before the computer would recognize the drives. Sorry can't remember all the steps. But it can be fixed.

I found the fix on Microsoft's support website - Microsoft Knowledge Base
Article - 320553. here is an excerpt, be sure to read the entire article
before attempting fix.

You had some (very) old CD burning software around, which the upgrade
has removed, leaving 'orphaned' registry entries. To tidy up, get a
registry patch file, cdgone.reg, from
www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip, extract it, r-click on it and merge
it into the registry

You will then need to reinstall any burning software that you *do* use.
