Last night suddenly, the CD R/W doesn't show up in My Computer.
I took it out and put it in another machine where it works fine. I have
tried uninstalling the drivers, but as soon as I turn the computer back
on, they are rebuilt,... but the CD R/W still doesn't show up in My
Computer and even though it has power (open and ejects), it won't
play any cd (music or application).

What can I check???
Thanks

Also, the drive does not show up in BIOS. Although I have no idea how
the data cable could have gone bad (doubt it seriously), I am going to
replace
it and change the jumper from select to master on second connector.
But I have no hope that will change things.

I changed out the ribbon cable (known good one) and changed the jumper to
master (the cd drive is the only drive on that connector). It didn't work.

If the drive isn't showing up in your BIOS (I presume that you mean
the onscreen POST), I would suggest going into your BIOS and doing an
auto-detect of the IDE drives.
Getting the drive to show up in BIOS would be the first step-- if you
can't see it there, the chance that it will work in Windows is minute.

Hope this helps,
Rory

It is now fixed. I got a driver conflict checker and reg cleaner from Nero
and it fixed it. Thanks
