WMP 11 doesn't recognize blank CD-R disc

I've not found this issue addressed anywhere in these forums or elsewhere.

I use Windows Media Player in Windows XP SP2, and the following problem
cropped up after I had used WMP 11 for a while: When I try to burn a blank
audio CD-R disc, WMP does not detect the disc, and the player will not eject
the disc. THis happens with every brand of disc I have tried.

WMP will play audio CDs, showing album and track information for
commercially-recorded discs. It shows "Unknown Album" and track numbers for
discs I burned using WMP, though it used to show the album and track
information.

Roxio Creator 9.1 XE will recognize a blank CD-R and burn it properly. (It
also shows proper album and track information for commercial discs, and
generic album and track information for discs I burned using WMP and Roxio
Creator.)

The DVD-CD player is an Optiarc DVD RW AD-7191A with, apparently, the latest
Windows driver.

Thank you for your attention.

If you have Roxio, why do you want to use WMP ? Use one of the other, but
not both as they may conflict with each other.

Push comes to a shove, use Roxio and have done with it.

Jerry

Ah, why indeed?

WMP allows me to select the information displayed about each track, and
allows me to make custom columns for information. Although it has some very
useful features (on the occasions when one needs to use them), Roxio does not
allow me to do these things.

Granted, this version of Roxio was free and pre-loaded on my computer, and I
need to look into the features of more advanced versions of the software, but
in the meantime I need to be able to annotate tracks with custom information,
and I don't need to see the file path of each track.

I'm also a bit concerned that an integral part of the Windows XP experience
is unable to perform an important function. It makes me wonder what else my
operating system is doing behind my back-- beyond the well-publicized evil
things I've already heard about.

Thank you for your quick response.
