closing audio cds

I am using wmp 10 sp1 . I have been burning cd's from my mp3 collection
for a long time with no issues. I was doing so yesterday morning when
suddenly the closing process started to give me errors. I rebooted the
computer, tried a restore point and no help. I've tried different media.
The player converts all of the mp3's...it then burns the files to the cd....
it then says closing.....then I get an error windows saying the player
couldn't write the files , try slower speed, cleaning or changing media. In
some cases I can close the disc with Nero...in others the disc appears to be
closed but the wmp doesn't recognize the file names on the disc (just reads
as track #). Also on some cd's it converts the files but only writes 12 or
so songs out of 20 to the disc then just goes into the close mode and then I
get the error. This issue has to be a wmp issue because I can convert and
burn cd's with no issue with Nero. I have not changed or added any new
programs to the computer. Is it possible to download wmp 10 again and
reinstall it over the top of the existing to maybe correct this issue or do I
need to revert back to wmp9 then reinstall 10. Or are there other ideas to
correct the issue.

Suggest you first upgrade to WindowsXP SP2, before doing anything.
Order Windows XP Service Pack 2 on CD
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx

WMP10 Download (12.07Mb),WMP is designed to be installed OVERTOP of itself.

WHat have you done/installed prior to the problems happening ?

Burning Audio or data discs ? Its not 100 % clear from your mail.

If burning on the fly, transforming mp3's into wave format automatically,
you could try converting the mp3's into waves before burning them. Try
Goldwave (slight fee) or Audactiy (freeware). Normalise before buring the
wave files.

One thing though - Nero does not like co-existing with WMP (or any other
burning software you may have installed). If using Nero I recommend
disabling the WMP burning feature (in Services, IMAPI Burning ROM etc) and
un-install any other burning software.

Personnally I use Nero 6, it has more features and is easy to use (eg : you
can write track names etc) and if ever you go up to Vista its compatible -
ver 6.6.

You can re-install WMP10 over itself, or upgrade to WMP11.

Cheers,
Jerry
