I am having several problems with a Win2K PC. I am guessing that I have a
worm or a virus.

I have not been on the Internet that much at all, and it never has been on
any other network.

Before I was able to access Task Manager with no problems. Now it pops up
and disappears.

I can access most websites, but when I try www.trendmicro.com, I get "Page
Cannot Be Displayed."

I have Win2K SP1. I tried installing SP4 but the install seems to start but
then it immediately disappears. The same thing happens with attempts to
install SP2.

I tried instaling some games from a CD and had the same results.

Have you tried safe mode? Do the same symptoms occur?
There is a trojan called netstatt.exe that results in similar symptoms.

The type of behavior you describe is typical behavior of more than
one virus/worm, the three below being the most common. Because many of
the newer viruses and worms, such as the Spybot mentioned below, can
disable antivirus applications whose definitions aren't kept up-to-date,
try using one or more of the free on-line scanners to double-check your
system. You'll probably have to try renaming or deleting your
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" file before you'll be able to
connect to the on-line virus scanners.
