Can't remove printer

I'm encountering a bit of trouble attempting to remove a network printer.
When I attempt to remove the printer via the normal procedure (Start ->
Printers and Faxes, right-click on the printer, select Delete) the error
message I ultimately receive is "Printer connection cannot be removed".

I've checked using a VB script and the printer connection is in the
collection. I've also attempted to remove the connection using a VB script,
where I get an error message that states "This network connection does not
exist".

I've checked the server that provides the connection (Windows NT box that
I'm trying to retire) and the printer shows as being shared.

When I go to the "Ports" tab in the "Properties" dialog box, all the contrl
buttons (Add Port, Delete Port, Configure Port) are disabled.

How can I delete this printer?

Thanks in advance.

Try stopping the Print Spooler service. Start/run, type: services.msc,
highlight the print Spooler item, click the ''stop the service' link. Then
try deleting the printer.

Thanks for the response.

Still no joy. I stopped the spooler and, when I attempted to delete the
printer, received a message indicating that the printer could not be removed
because the print spooler was not running.

Best regards,
