Shreyank

I have windows xp service pack 2. i had recently installed norton
internet security 2007 but because it made my pc slower i uninstalled
it. but now every time windows loads i get an alert from windows
security alerts about norton internet security not being active.

i also tried re-installing it NIS but the setup would not start please
help as i want to install zonealarm firewall..which too is not
installing due to some installer error (if u could help me on that
too):( :(

Some day Norton was must-have tool pack, but not it's really hard to
use it and to take it away from pc. Actually, when some one what to
remove it, it leaves a lot of un-used things, for instance some files
from protected recycle bin. I'm afraid no one could uninstall norton
correctly :( What I do to skip warnings is just not removing norton,
but disabling it, in this case i have not error messages. Hope we will
see better uninstalling options soon.

What happened? Do you have another anti-virus programme or Windows
Defender installed? What is the make and model of your computer?

What is the make and model of your computer?

Is the Norton Anti Virus part of Norton Internet Security still
scanning for viruses?

Please look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for
Warning and Error Reports and post copies here.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event Viewer.
Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the
message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report.
Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

Do you have or have you had Norton Goback installed?

Install and run HijackThis:
Download HijackThis (Freeware)
http://tomcoyote.com/hjt/

Please email me a copy of the HijackThis Report to
(e-mail address removed) but you need to reverse my initials.

Did you check Event Viewer for Error / Warning Reports?

In the Windows Security Centre if you click on Virus Protection it
should expand to reveal further information. What does it say? Also if
you click on Firewall it expands to reveal further information. Are
you saying that both show Norton Internet Security and that it is
disabled?

Hope this helps.
