Can't Reinstall IE6-strange error message

R

Reg and Ruth

I get the following error message when I try to reinstall IE6 SP1 from the
MS web site. Program downloads ok, but will not install.

" The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to
verify its compatability with Windows XP. This software will not be
installed."

How could IE be in the category of "not passed Windows Logo testing?'

Many thanks for help on this issue

Sorry for the omission. I am using Windows XP SP1 with 256MB DDR RAM on
Pentium 4, 2.4GHz.

Are you following the steps in this KB article?...

Repair or Reinstall IE/OE (WinXP)
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378

As to the logo error, you can check out...

When installing an update you receive the following message: "Software you
are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing"
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/

....but, per Q318378 (above) you'll be reinstalling from your WinXP CD, not
downloading a new version.

All of which begs the question: What problems are you having which you think
reinstalling IE will address?

1. Troubleshooting Secure Sites

2. Check your system for "hijackware":

You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each and every
use, even "right out of the box". But even then, they can't catch
everything. HijackThis (http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip; [new
URL] ) is the preferred tool to use these days. It will help to both
identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post your files to

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.[/QUOTE]
