IE 6 Wont install

B

Brian

Hey all, I'm trying to reinstall IE6 and it won't work. It gives me this
error message everytime I try and install it:

"The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to
verify it's compatibility with Windows XP. [Hyperlink] (Tell me why this is
important) [end hyperlink]. This software will not be installed. Contact
your system administrator."

I'm running Windows XP Home and can't get this stupid thing to run. I've
downloaded ie6setup.exe from Microsoft's own website and am trying to
install it from there. How can Microsoft's own web browser not pass their
own compatibility tests? Very interesting!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried installing it from Safe Mode? It bypasses Windows and
anything else that may be running in the background.

To get to Safe Mode::

Reboot the computer, when it starts up again, hold down the Ctrl key until
the black screen comes up. You will see a list of choices, select Safe Mode
(No. 3). After the install is complete, reboot and let the system load
normally to Windows.

If the install from Safe Mode does ot work, try the progams below.
It is possible you may have parasites, spyware, adware or
malware on your system causing the problem. Download,
install, you *must* update the programs prior to running to
be sure they have the latest definitions, then run the programs
below. They are free and very effective.Be sure to run both
SpyBot and Adaware, as what one does not detect the other
may. It is important that you follow all directions carefully:

SpyBot Search & Destroy: Free

or

AdAware: Free

Hmm..didn't work from Safe Mood huh? <g> Well....I had no luck with the
IE6 SP1, and by trying several times to install and it not working, I wound
up with what they call 'Version Soup', which is a mixture of the last
version and the not fully installed IE6, which can create lots of problems.
:-(

I think PA Bear or perhaps someone else here might be able to help. I'll
change the Subject title a bit and see if PA Bear or one of the other pro's
will catch it and be able to help, or know where to refer you.

Sorry I could not help you more, but, hopefully one of the experts here will
be able to get you back up and running properly again soon.

Good luck, Brian.

well thanks for trying to help, it's greatly appreciated. I just find it
very interesting that IE SP1 wont even pass Microsoft's own compatibility
listings. That's mind boggling. Thanks again for trying to help.

You're very welcome. It does make you wonder, huh? Maybe the OS builder
was is bit smarter then the IE6 SP1 builder, so then OS just says...."Nope!
I sure don't want you, no way!" and just tosses it out. At least after a
few tries it begins to look that way <g>

Good luck to you.
