I have microsoft vista and use windows mail . I Just renewed norton a few
days ago. email worked ok at first after it ran a live update, but a few
hours later, I couldn't receive emails. My Inbox shows "10" (new messages)
but the messages don't actually show up in my in box. I can send email- I
sent one to my own address and got it on my webmail acct (embarq) but it
didn't show up in my windows acct- Now, ,windows mail doesn't appear to be
receiving any email at all, but I can still get them on webmail

Norton Antivirus 2008 (and earlier) is among the top three troublemakers
for Windows Mail. Symptoms often don't surface until several months have
gone by, or until an update occurs.
Disabling its email scanning is a good first step, but it is often not sufficient.

Several users here have reported that Symantec will give you a free
upgrade to Norton Antivirus 2009, which cures the problem.

In a worst case scenario, you may have to uninstall Norton, followed by
using their debris removal tool:

Instead of uninstalling your antivirus, another option is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of overly
intrusive antivirus products: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Try compacting and repairing the database (www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/) and see
if that fixes anything. Also update to Vista SP1 with your antivirus
software disabled. You may find that things just won't work with Norton
installed.
