Do these help?

Since they say that these errors are often due to interference
from antivirus software, what if any antivirus programs do
you have, and have you ever had a Norton or McAfee
antivirus program on that computer, even one of the free
trial versions that often come already installed on new
computers?

Computers talk to each other through one of approximately 65,000
ports. Port 25 is the one most often used for sending outgoing
mail, but many email providers are now starting to block connections
to port 25 that cross over from one internet provider's equipment
to another's before it reaches the server. Some, but not all, email
providers are now letting their users send outgoing mail through
port 587 instead, which can use some extra checks to make sure
spammers don't use these connections.

You'll have to ask Vodafone for their instructions on how to set up
to connect to their servers; they don't seem to have put them on their
web site.

Your complaint is about a receive failure, yet your error message is
about a send failure. Which is it?

To isolate the receive error message, click on Receive All, rather
than Send/Receive.

The port setting should be whatever your mail provider (Vodafone)
specifies. I can't find Vodafone's email setup page, but I'm pretty sure
their SMTP server only supports port 25.
