Can't read characters

All of a sudden I can't read any small characters (letters or numbers) in IE 6.0. I noticed this yesterday (2/11) after I downloaded and installed the latest updates from Windows Update Service. I performed a system restore to before those installations but it did not help

I'm currently running 6.0.2600. I tried to download the SP1 from MS site but got a message it was not XP Logo tested. Doesn't make sense -- its coming from MS site and an integrated component of Windows XP
