Ok, this is the software that I have as well..........I am also having
issues with no newsgroup messages downloading from my online classroom
newsgroup. I wonder why this newsgroup works?

When you say "system restore" are you talking about the CD's for your
computer when you buy it? or the restore for the Webroot?

Good find. Any third party security program can potentially cause
problems for Windows Mail.
Seems like you would want to uninstall Spy Sweeper instead of
having to do repeated system restores.

Don't assume that your problem is just like someone else's.
If you get an error message, right-click on it, copy, then paste
it into a reply here.

It will tell me "there are no items to view" in the newsgroup folder. I can
not find anyone who is understanding what I am going
through...............funny thing also.......I do not see my post that I
sent in here, but yet I see your reply to my post with my original
message............why is that?

If it says "There are no items to view" it means there were no new
posts in that newsgroup. Are there other newsgroups you can check
on that same news server?

Also, make sure that you are downloading all news messages:
go to Tools, Options, Read, uncheck "Get 300 headers at a time".

Not sure why you can't see your own post. Make sure you haven't
inadvertently added yourself to the Blocked Senders list.

Hello Gary,

Norton is gone, new email account created, still getting the same old error.
I do still have AVG anti-spyware but that wasn't installed until after this
problem.

April, this is a feature of Windows Vista, which brings the computer back to
what was installed on a chosen day. On Windows Help, it says:

System Restore helps you restore your computer's system files to an earlier
point in time. It's a way to undo system changes to your computer without
affecting your personal files, such as e‑mail, documents, or photos.

Gary, I uninstalled Spy Sweeper and reinstalled it afterward. ( I paid for a
year's subscription) I'm hesitant to operate without any anti-virus
software. Was the software that came with the computer sufficient?

All antivirus programs that are configured to scan emails will
eventually cause problems in Windows Mail. Some AV programs
still cause problems even with the email scanning disabled.

We usually recommend that users with one of the troublesome
AV programs uninstall it, then replace it with one of the more
compatible AV programs, two of which are free:
AVG free edition:
http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download?prd=afe

or Avast free edition:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

With either of those, during the install phase you must select custom
install, and then deselect the email scanning option.

I have done the uncheck and I know there are messages because when I log
into my classroom at UIU with OWA, all the posts are there. I am not sure
what is going on, but it seems to be an issue with many so I am probably not
going to use it anymore.

And, I still do not see my posts in here, only others.

Thanks!

A few newsgroup servers seem to think that you don't need to see any
newsgroup posts you made again.

OWA is quite a different technology than newsgroups.
You should probably seek assistance from your school advisors.

If you are sure the username and password are correct, then the
culprit is probably your antivirus program. Which antivirus are you
running?

I am having the same problem, I have been working on this for over 3 weeks
for an employer and have been unsuccessful in setting up their windows mail.
I have entered all the imap and smtp info and each time I try to start the
mail for the first time, I get a pop up window from Windows Security asking
for my username and password. I have tried to the previous suggestions
posted here such as unchecking the newsgroups thing, and am still
unsuccessful. Can someone help?

Some email servers require that you enter your username with no spaces
and no CAPITAL LETTERS. Some require that you follow it with the
part of your email address starting with @, and some require that you
don't. Many don't treat CAPITAL LETTERS in your password as
being the same as the matching lowercase letters. Many of them use
essentially the same error message for all problems with your username
and/or password, to avoid helping anyone trying to guess usernames
and passwords.

Windows Mail doesn't have a login requirement, but the servers it is
trying to connect to often do, so watch for which server is making the
request before deciding which username and password to enter, if
they aren't the same on all servers Windows Mail tries to connect to.
