Can't Logon to Windows Mail

G

Guest

When I try to send or receive mail, a Logon to Windows Mail pops up. I fill
it out with the correct username and password, but when I click "OK", the
popup just disappears than appears again in a few seconds, with no
confirmation or logon failed messages.

Go to Tools, Options, General tab, uncheck "Use newsgroup
message rating features."

I tried i, it didn't work. Everytime I fill out the logon form, it just pops
up empty a few seconds later still.

Here's the error message:
"Account: 'Windows Mail', Server: 'mail.w3connex.ca', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '-ERR User: splamondon Domain: w3connex.ca, User login denied
(splamondon) : Account disabled', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error:
0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92"

I thought you were talking about the Communities login, but
I see now that the issue concerns your email. Is this "splamondon"
username you? If so, your email account has been disabled by
your ISP. Give W3Connex a call.

Hi Sam, I woke up this morning with exactly the same problem, all email
passwords GONE and they also fail to be remembered if I redo them. I know
my computer had an update yesterday so I restored my computer back to the
restore point generated yesterday and everything is ok again - hope this
helps you.

Well, the problem has fixed itself - I guess W3Connex must have fixed it or
something. Thanks for all of the suggestions!

I have the same problem suddenly: Logon to Windows Mail pops up and won't
confirm. The header in the dialog box is Windows Security. I even tried
turning Windows Security off with no improvement. My mail server works on
their web page, but not on my delightful Winmail on Vista.

Help? Thanks.

If you are sure the username and password are correct, then the
culprit is probably your antivirus program. Which antivirus are you
running?

Hello Gary,

Just to be sure, my user name is my email address or what is BEFORE
@cox.net? I've tried using both.

Secondly, I'm using Norton, but it has expired. I went into it and
unchecked all email scans.

Lastly, I have deleted and added the same account, checking the box to
remember my password.

Thanks

I hope you can get an answer because I have the same problem. Same error
800CCC90.
If you're also on cox.net, see here:

If not, right click on your error message and copy all of it to your next
message.

Also, some email servers insist that you enter your username with no spaces
or CAPITAL LETTERS. Some insist that you follow it with the part of your
email address starting with @, and some insist that you don't. Many insist
that you use CAPITAL and lowercase letters in the correct places in your
password.

Email servers aren't all alike in which they insist on. Try both.

Most versions of Norton tend to cause problems in Windows Mail,
even if they are disabled but still installed. Uninstall it, then reboot
and run this cleanup program to take care of what the uninstall leaves
behind:

Windows Mail has a quirk that often makes it forget the password if you
click
Apply in the same session as putting a checkmark before Remember password.
Wait until you find a working username and password. Then click on Tools,
then Accounts, then your email account, then Properties, then Servers. If
your
username needs changing, click at the end of it, then backspace over it,
then
type the correct username, then click Apply. If the password needs
changing,
click at the end of the dots that represent it, backspace over them, then
type
the correct password, then click Apply. It may then ask you to verify the
password. After you do this, click on OK, then Close.

I am using Norton. I unchecked all email scan boxes, at least I think I did.

Aha! the culprit! Spy Sweeper with Anti-Virus by Webroot. In my case, what
worked was to do a "system restore" back to the previous day, and the problem
went away. It happened again about a month later, and once again "system
restore" fixed it.
