Can't launch Fax service

After reformatting hard drive and installing Win2K, the
fax service recognized the modem. Then installed all
availble updates for Win2K using "windows update" and the
fax service disappeared. When trying to launch Fax Service
management, I got the message "Could not open a connection
to the fax service; the fax service might not be started,
or the computer name may be incorrect". Tried to restart
fax service and found there was not an item for "services"
under Computer Management; System Tools. The device
manager lists modem as working correctly. Any advice on
what to try next to get the fax service working would be
appreciated. Thank you.

Try going into the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and
open "Windows Components"

Make sure it is installed. If it is installed try
uninstalling it and reinstalling the component.

hope that helps

Thank you for responding. Followed your advice. I could
not find anything under "windows components" that appeared
applicable to a fax service, including reading all
details. So I believe it is not installed. On my Windows
2000 Pro CD-Rom, under I386, Win9XMIG, Fax, I have found
the file "migrate.dll" - but I wouldn't know what to do
with it. My knowledge is too limited. Any more help would
be again very appreciated.
