Recently my hard drive and back up drives crashed. I had to use the XP
restore discs from HP. Since the restore I have had problems installing new
software & programs. Either they freeze in the middle of installation, or
critical components that the program needs to run are not installed, and a
message appears saying that I have to reinstall. After reinstalling the same
thing happens.

How can I correct this problem?????

Is there any advice in the Event Viewer? What is the exact error you get?

The problem you see now might be related to the reason your system crashed
in the first place. Perhaps your hard drive is failing. But before you run
out and purchase another drive try running CHKDSK /R to see if it can find
and repair bad sectors on the drive.

To learn how to do this go to Start->Help & Support and do a search for
CHKDSK
