Can't install printer XP PRO

My hard drive crashed and I had to
replace the whole thing. I purchased a retail full version of Windows
XP SP2
and installed it my new hard drive. Ever since then I can not install
any
printer on the computer.

Details of what I did and my problem.
-Hard Drive crashed, purchased and installed a new one
-Installed a full version Windows XP SP2 (new purchase, since before I
only
had an upgrade)
-Tried to install USB printer (tried multiple printers), when I plug in
the
printer it recongnizes the type of printer, then it shows copying the
files
to install the driver, then at the end it closes and says "there was a
problem installing your printer, it may not work properly"
-The printer does not show up in the control panel under printers
-Downloaded the latest drivers for both printers to ensure I had the
latest
version.

So any ideas?

Thanks,

Sounds like you forgot to install the chipset drivers for your motherboard
after doing the complete clean installation of XP.

If these are USB printers, the normal course of events is to install the
printer software BEFORE connecting the printer to the PC.... which make and
model printers are you trying to install?

Do other USB devices work correctly?

Are the USB ports in question on the motherboard or on a hub... and if hub,
powered or unpowered?

Yes all other usb devices work and I have also tried to you a regular
printer cable and got the same error.. Did install the printer software
first and waited until it ask for the printer and still no joy
