Can't install any Printers XP PRO with service pak 2

My hard drive crashed and I had to
replace the whole thing. I purchased a retail full version of Windows
XP SP2
and installed it my new hard drive. Ever since then I can not install
any printer on the computer.
Details of what I did and my problem.
-Hard Drive crashed, purchased and installed a new one
-Installed a full version Windows XP then applied SP2
-Tried to install USB printer (tried multiple printers), when I plug in

the printer it recongnizes the type of printer, then it shows copying
the
files to install the driver, then at the end it closes and says "there
was a
problem installing your printer, it may not work properly"
-The printer does not show up in the control panel under printers
-Downloaded the latest drivers for both printers to ensure I had the
latest version. Get the same error with usb or regular pirnter cable.
Also I did install the chip drivers to the mother board. So any ideas?

I'd keep going with the regular printer cable until this is solved. USB
trouble-shooting can be a bitch depending on the MB's chipset. Anyway, check
in device manager to see if your regular printer port is showing up, i.e.
LPT. The driver should install whether the printer is really there or not.

The only time that I've had a similar error is when I forgot to power up a
USB printer, again LPT doesn't care.

Uninstall SP2 or reinstall WinXP and skip SP2 it is nothing but a problem.
If you advance beyond the printer you will surely find other software that
won't function as it did before.
What benefit did you get from SP2, other than loading it because you assumed
you needed it. I don't think it is worth the trouble it causes.

Very poor advice. I have SP2 installed on all of my systems here and I've
installed it on many other systems as well. *None* of them has had a single
problem as a result.

SP2 is an important update with *many* fixes and enhancements,
security-related and other. Read here: "List of fixes included in Windows XP
Service Pack 2"
