Can't Install IE 7

Mort

I have IE 6 installed on my computer with XP SP2. When I try to download
IE 7, the download begins but continuously "hangs". The window shows
that it's downloading updates to IE 7 (which has not been installed).
The green progress bar keeps running and never stops. The only way to
stop the download is to shut power to the machine. After rebooting IE 6
is still active.
I tried to uninstall the present IE 6 before installing 7 but it does
not appear in "Add/Remove Programs".

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

In view of all the problems that installing IE7 has caused for many people I
think you have had a narrow escape. If your computer is working fine now it
may not be after you install IE7.

You should post your question in the IE7 newsgroup *after* you spend
some time reading through the posts there. The IE7 newsgroup is:

microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

There are a huge number of posts so it would be smart to start by going
to Google Groups Advanced Search. Use a search term that describes your
problem, constrain the search to the IE7 newsgroup and the date to very
recently. You can also check MVP Sandi Hardmeier's canonical IE7 site.
Sandi has workarounds, known issues, troubleshooting, and links. This
may be the only site you need.

And no, I'm sorry but I don't have your answer or I would tell you
now. ;-)

You can not uninstall IE, it's part of the operating system.

Is there a feature in IE 7 that you need? If not, save yourself the
trouble.
