Can't install blaster worm security patch

JW Darwin

Hi. I can't get through to Microsoft by phone, and my
email requests for help keep eliciting the same autoreply
re downloading the above patch.

I've detected and removed the worm from my pc, but the
installation of the patch keeps failing with the
following error message:

KB823980 Set-up Error

Set-up could not verify the integrity of the file
update.inf.

Make sure the Cryptographic service is running on this
computer.

Can someone help me?

Ta, in advance.

Yes, I can tell you what has happened, you have already
tried to install the patch, otherwise you would not get
that message.
It seems the patch is not good for xp pro, I am guessing
thats what you have,my advise is dont try it again and
dont use it again, it does not work. It has destroyed
almost all of my links and network connections.

But if you go to the "control panel" and and got
to "admin tools"--then "services", find "Cryptographic
Services" and start it. If it start's you may be ok, if
it doesn't you screwed, I have found no way to fix it.

sorry, I had to reinstall the OS.

I will bet you also that the "system restore does not
work under "accesories--system tools--system restore"

post me back, my e-mail is screwed also.
