Can't import winmail emails into outlook (2000)

A Brief Preamble... I searched for info on this problem. I couldn't find
any on target, though I'm sure it's there, somewhere. I recently upgraded to
Vista and discovered that winmail doesn't have an address book, as such, and
doesn't permit the use of address folders like I had in Outlook Express. Why
not? I don't know why such a basically useful--and, in my case, an essential
feature--was abandoned. Anyway I really do need it, so I bought a copy of
Office 2000 in order to get Outlook (which has the old faithful address
book).

I then installed and updated my new office 2000 and I managed to import my
email addresses into Outlook, but could not import the winmail emails. When
I try exporting them from Winmail to Outlook, the winmail email folder
(local) was located without a problem and I got to the end of the procedure,
but then I was informed that either there's not enough space (There are 313
gigs of space available on the drive.) or that files are corrupted (The files
are fine in my winmail.)

I then tried the other method--to import from Winmail into Outlook. I got
as far as locating the local folder containing them, but the importing system
didn't recognize any emails and wouldn't go any further.

My thousands of emails are all sorted into folders in the local folder and I
need to keep them sorted or I'll have a big problem.

If I can't use Outlook then I need to find another email client that has an
address book like Outlook Express.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Vista uses Windows Mail, the 'new' outlook Express, and inturn uses Windows
Contacts, the new address book.(wab)
Outlook 2k is not compatible with Vista, and as such will give you problems.
You need to move your old OE msg store to WinMail & intern move your old wab
to WinMail Contacts
How you do this is probably best posed to a Vista/WindowsMail group.
PS When you say upgraded to Vista its not entirely clear whether you mean
you purchased a new Vista PC or whether you upgraded your operating system
to Vista on your PC, if that is the case the msgs & contacts would I thought
have been automatically migrated.

Thanks DL. I guess I'll look for something else. I'm not into fooling
around with these things.
