Can't get rid of popup blocker

I am using Internet Explorer 6.0 without the Service Pack Installed (the
Service Pack caused massive conflicts with other programs and I had to
reinstall the XP operating system to get rid of it), along with the Google
toolbar which has the popup blocker turned OFF. Nonetheless, popups are being
blocked and I can't seem to find out which program is doing it. I normally
HATE popups, but sometimes I have to allow them -- for example, when
downloading the new definitions file for McAfee antivirus software.
Can anyone tell me how to find out which popup blocker is in use so I can
attempt to turn it off when necessary?
Thanks,
Hal

See if your firewall or anti-virus has an option blocking popups.

Thanks for responding, Frank. I use the McAfee antivirus program and it does
not seem to have a popup blocker, and I don't have a firewall. So I'm still
stumped.

I had a problem with I E in that it would always report "IE has
encountered a problem and will now close"
I had the Google toolbar installed. I decided to get rid of it.
Since then I have not had any problems closing the I E browser, maybe
that is causing your problem too.

You shouldn't be connecting to the Internet without a firewall.

Get SP2

I'll look into the firewall protection, but my popup problem remains. When I
hit-control-alt-delete and view the Windows Task Manager, I can see 45
processes being listed, but I have no way of telling which of them might be
the unknown popup blocker. (I can't cut and paste the list but if you think
you'd recognize the culprit I can copy the list one by one for you to look
at.)
