can't get on the internet

hi i have a dsl connection w/o a router. worked fine until
yesterday. all programs work i just can't log on to the
net. anitvirus was uninstalled by a "friend" w/o my
knowledge. the network connection is okay with the light
not flashing but steady lit. no firewall that was also
unistalled by the "friend" is there a virus that may lock
my port form accessing the net. i will also try to
reinstall the antivirus sw but would like to see if i can
do a simple search for the virus. and remove it. also when
i look at the network adapter and try to look at the ip
address it says unavailable. i pugged my notebook into the
dsl and the notebook had no problem going on line.

Hmm, as with many people you may have the Sasser virus,
it can take over your internet connection and without a
patched system or a good firewall it just sneaks on.

I sugest you take a look at
http://www.newtechhelp.com/content/view/30/29/ and check
the symptoms, and get the patch/removal tool from the
same page!

hi i searched for the files mentioned and found none of
them like avserve or *._up.exe etc. could this still be
the sasser or blaster. thanks
