Explorer 7 slowing down and timing out - Internet slowing down

I am not on a network and I am not using a router. Just a direct connection
to the Dsl modem.

When I boot up with XP and Explorer 7.0, everything comes up and works fine.
I use explorer and can acess any web site w/o any problems. I can also send
and receive emails using Express w/o any problems. About 5 minutes later, I
can no longer access any web sites. It seems like it times out waiting for
the site to respond or maybe there is something running in the background
that is taking all the memory. I reboot the system and everything works fine
again for about 5 minutes when the same problem occurs. I ran Norton full
virus scan, spybot virus scan, and MS malicious software removel tool all to
no avail. No problems found. I also did a full reset on Explorer, rebooted
and still the same problem.. Help me....please

"...maybe there is something running in the background..."

You can find out. Open Task Manager to the Processes tab and set the
processes to display in order of decreasing CPU usage. Park Task Manager
in a corner of your monitor, and when you feel your computer slowing
down, see what process is occupying the majority of the CPU's resources.
