Am running high speed phone line and since i installed sp2 no internet. tried
to release/renew ip address but it wont renew? Am using a speedstream usb
modem with sympatico.ca high speed. any help for a newbie??????

Have you called your isp?
Is the modem and usb drivers installed correctly?
Do the correct lights on the modem light up?
What ip address are you getting?
Any firewalls or routers in the mix?
Did you prepare your computer for sp2 by removing all the spyware, adware,
and viruses?

Is the SpeedStream connected USB or Rj-45?

Have you called Sympatico's tech support?

Check the firewall. That last SP may have turned on XP's Firewall software.
You will find an applet in the Control Panel.

The service pack install enabled the built in XP firewall. Go into control
panel and switch it off.

Firewall is turned off, no virus protection at all installed, Connects thru a
usb cable, drivers installed , modem is recognized, sympatico says its a sp2
issue and not their fault, If i try to connect my dsl modem i get limited or
no connectivity.

Do you have two software firewalls running? if so they will conflict with
each other.
even though it says the built in firewall is off, I've found it's still on,
and causing problems with ZA Zonealarm, so each time I boot I have to turn
off ZA go into the control panel and (even though it says it's off) select
the on button and then off button, then enable ZA and things work fine, I
also have a hardware FW
so I'm not open to the net at any time.
It's a real pain.
I suggest you select enable on the firewall and then disable.
