Hi:

After installing SP2 I've encountered 2 problems:

1.In control panel the "network connections" icon is duplicated.

2. Now when I connect to the internet I get a message that I have limited
or no connectivity. This is obviously not true since I am now connected to
the internet. When I select repair I get the following message "...cannot
Renew Your Address". I have tried "ipcongfig" with all the switches in the
proper order (all, release. & renew). After running the "renew" option I
get the following message: "unable to contact your DHCP server"

I am not sure but I think these problems are related.

How can I fix them?

after restarting my icons are always changed back to default icons and items
i have sent to recycle bin are back on the desktop this is so frustrating
come on guys this is xp whats up with that?

Hi:

I found the answer to problem 2. In the "Local Area Connection Properties"
window at the bottom there is an option box to tick if you want to be
notified when this connection has limited or no connectivity.
I believe this is the simple answer to problem 2.

I still have duplicate "Network Connections" icons in control panel.

Hi:
As per your advice I looked at the registry. I found the following entry
concerning "Network Connections" in that setting. In the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ControlPanel\NameSpace\{7007ACC7-3202-11D1-AAD2-00805FC1270E}\\(default)Network
Connection REG_SZ 20

Is this of some help?

Upon doing a search of the registry I found the following entries:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell
Extensions\Approved\\{7007ACC7-3202-11D1-AAD2-00805FC1270E}--Network
Connections REG_SZ 20

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell
Extensions\Approved\\{992CFFA0-F557-101A-88EC-00DD010CCC48}--Network
Connections REG_SZ 20

Do they mean anything?

Have a good day,

Mel Marcovitz
