Can't find proper modem driver to update

L

lazarere

I am running Windows XP Professional on a Dell Computer,
purchased in Canada. The computer is 1 month old.
The modem driver is: 'Conexant Smart HSFi v92 56K
Speakerphone PCl Modem' The manufacturer is listed as
Conexant, the version # is: v5.3.29.50, dated 18/12/2002.
There may be a problem with frequent inability to connect
to my ISP provider, and it was suggested that I first
download an updated version of the modem driver [if there
is one]. However, I cannot find that particular modem
driver name either on Conexant's driver download page or
Dell's downloads site. It was suggested that I download
the file: R46136.exe for that modem from Windows XP site.
Can you help me with the exact modem update for my
particular modem, and where I may find it? Dell's support
has been no help--they suggested going to Conexant's site
and downloading a driver whose name is not listed there.
I would appreciate any guidance.
Thanks.

My Generic Soft56 Data Fax Conexant modem responds well to the
Conextant website's generic driver, which was downloaded as
HSFp_WinXP.zip. Surfing slowed markedly when I tried the one
recommended by the windows update site, which was also older.

Definitely agree that you should check out driversguide.com.
