can't download .exe

Brenda

When using IE6 with XP I can't download .exe files. When
I try using the same links through my AOL browser they
work just fine. I would like to resolve the issue in the
IE6 browser though as I prefer to use it as my main
browser.

You set this for each file type, e.g. for .zip
Explorer-View-Folder Options-File Types
Find the .zip association (may be WinZip File)
Edit, (or click Advanced on ME or XP) and check the "Confirm open
after download" box

The path to Folder Options may vary according to your operating
system. It may be:
Explorer-View-Folder Options
Explorer-Tools-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Control Panel-Folder options.

Hi Brenda - I am having the same problem - .exe and .bat
files are prvented from downloading. I'm running windows
2000 SP4 so it may be something in IE6.0 that is the
problem. Any ideas?

When I use my IE6 browser independently from my AOL and
try to download a .exe file (or any file for that matter)
through web pages, I will click on the link to the file I
want to download and nothing happens. It doesn't change
pages and the download window doesn't open either. I've
tried right clicking and doing "Save as" but that doesn't
work either. I've also found now that once I do that, in
order to leave that particular website and go to another,
I can't type a new address in the window. I have to close
it and open a new one. I hope you or anyone out there
can help me with this. It seems that a lot of people are
having this problem. There must be a bug! Imagine that!
Just kidding! Thank you, Brenda
