Tweaks to allow the IE6 to download file by Orbit downloader

Roy

Hello group
Recently I had this problem with my WinXP run PC but having IE6 as
default browser. It used to be okay using download manager to
download and upload files but was just surprised why today its not
possible anymore
BTW I am using Orbit downloader ....
In comparison the back up browser, the firefox 3 have no problems at
all doing it .
Is there any possible tweaks to resolve this issue?
TIA
Roy

Hi Roy,

Check to see if IE is still your default browser or possibly check Orbit's
settings to see if it is still 'hooked in' to IE.

Regards.

Thanks for your reply Rob..
Yes IE6 is my default downloader...so far this problem is with the
rapidshare account only but not with other file servers.
I have asked rapidshare support group but they can give me any
explanation how this happen..
The assume that IE6 may have security holes that prevent it from
downloading from a download manager.
BTW, are there any unpatched holes in IE6 that can be exploited by
phising attack..
This was the concern of rapidshare that is why they are recommending
to me to change browsers...
Is there a way to update IE6 for possible updates on itself...but not
going to IE7 or IE8
TIA
Roy

Hi Roy,

No unfortunately the days of IE6 are numbered. There is a big push towards
IE8 with its security improvements. But actually the root cause is XP. You
can upgrade XP to SP3 and retain IE6 and you will have comparable security
to Vista/IE7 except no phishing filter.

Download and install spyware blaster from spywareblaster.com which is a list
of known malware sites that are placed in your Restricted Security sites
zone. However you should remove these before you upgrade to IE8....

I would suggest that you consider waiting for Win7 and buy a new machine
with it pre-installed then copy your apps across (you may not be able to
upgrade to 7 from your current XP machine).

Regards.

Thanks Rob...
Hmm from what you imply there are really security holes then, that is
why rapidshare is wary about IE6. And indeed Phishing might be rampant
there no?
I have already updated WinXP2 to version to SP3.
I am not worried about phishing as my PC is protected by Kaspersky
Internet security....
I am still reluctant to upgrade to IE7 knowing the countless problems
that my friends are having with it... and much worser with IE8.
Yes you are right...Win7 is the way.
BTW
My current PC is 17 inch laptop with pentium M780(2.26GHZ), 2Gigs
ddr2 RAM, 256 dedicated graphics Vram, Winxpsp3,
Do you think that this will Accept Win7? I never installed Vista
because of its notoriety...
When things get okay......
Before the year ends I am planning in getting a another desktop
replacement system, likely core i7 ( extreme) run,12 GIG with triple
channel RAM , dual VRAM SLI configuration and huge triple deck hard
drives.....<grin> for considrable future proofing, just hoping that
full version of Win7 willbe ready by then. and have no problem with 64
bit configuration and .. hope that my issue with IE6 will be by over
then.....LOL...!
