can't delete extension from registry

Herb

So I'm trying to associate the .vnc extension for use with vncviewer, but I
messed up. I created a vnc connection file (.vnc) with the viewer, and
tried to open the file. I got the "select program from a list" window, i
chose browse, and selected vncviewer.exe. It then opens the .vnc file in
the viewer. But what happens is, whenever I try to open that file again, XP
still doesn't know what to open the file with, though this time, vncviewer
is shown as the recommended program in the list of programs.

I found out from the vnc website that I'm supposed to run vncviewer with
the -register switch to register the .vnc extension to work properly. I did
this on another computer, and it works as it should. But it doesn't seem to
do anything on this computer, I'm guessing since I already tried associating
the extension through the "select program" list.

So I'm trying to start over. But the .vnc extension isn't listed in the
"file types" window. When I look in the registry under HKEY\Classes_Root,
..vnc is listed, but it tells me "can't open .vnc - error while opening key."
When I try to check the permissions, and it tells me I don't have permission
to view the permissions, though I can change them. Well, I can't change the
permissions. My account is an administrator on the local machine. (domain
admin as well)

So, how can I delete the .vnc extension from the registry?

Thanks
