Computer sometimes hangs after installing KB909095

I recently installed hotfix KB909095 to allow my computer (running Windows XP
SP2) to hibernate with 2 GB of RAM. After installing this patch however, I've
noticed that my computer "hangs" when I do certain things. For example

1) When I click on a link in IE6, the page starts to load, but then IE just
hangs for about 15-20 seconds before it finishes loading the page.

2) If I start an application from the quick launch bar, the icon stays
depressed for about 15-20 seconds (seems like the execution is hanging)
before the application is finally started.

3) When using a VNC, if I try to autocomplete a string to a filename that
does not exist or autocomplete a string that matches multiple filenames (for
example in a directory that has file1 and file2, I type file and
autocomplete), the VNC session hangs for about 15-20 seconds.

Any idea why installing this patch caused these problems? And what do I do
to resolve it?

Have you tried uninstalling the patch from Add/Remove Programs (make
sure "Show updates" is checked, to verify that's what is causing it?

Ah, didn't realize the Windows Updates were hidden. I removed KB909095 and
another fix that was installed the same day but it hasn't improved much.

Is the problem that I have 2 GB RAM? About two weeks before installing
KB909095, I had upgraded from 1 GB, however I didn't see this behavior then.

Is there anything else I can do to figure out what is causing this?

There was an IE issue with KB942615, but not as you are describing. You
could try removing that one and see if it helps. RAM wouldn't be
causing it.

Thanks for the quick response Terry.

I checked and I don't have that fix installed.

Any idea what would cause this? The two applications don't seem related so I
can't think of what would affect both of them (other than RAM). Could it be a
resource conflict?

Strange. If your updates are current, it should be there. But I can't
think of anything else that would be causing this issue. Have you
scanned for malware?

I did check for malware and nothing was found.

I started playing with the add ons in IE and I think I might've found the
problem to one of the issues. The following two add ons are causing the
problem that I had listed earlier (where IE hangs when a page is loading)

AcroIEToolbarHelper Class - AcroIEFavClient.dll
Shockwave Flash Object - Flash9e.ocx

It seems like both of these are needed add ons. Are there any known issues
with these?

I don't know since I don't use IE. I use Firefox and the same thing
applies though. FF has a Safe Mode that runs without extensions, which
is good for t-shooting. The toolbar helper may not be necessary. Maybe
try reinstalling the flash plugin to see if that helps.
